High School Subject Requirements

The CSU requires a 15-unit pattern of courses for admission as a freshman. Each unit is equal to a year of study in a subject area. A grade of C or higher is required for each course you use to meet the subject requirements.

It is important to prepare for these courses while in middle school. You can even start taking some of these courses in middle school. If at all possible, you should take Algebra I in the 8th grade. In some cases, you can begin studying a language other than English in the 8th grade as well.
