Are the residence halls wired to the campus computer network for Internet access?
|
Along with a variety of computing services on campus, there is a computer lab in each community, with PC and a laser printer. All of the computers in the labs have a connection to the campus network. Also, the rooms in Lassen, Shasta, Mechoopda, Esken, and Konkow Halls are equipped with two high speed Ethernet connections to the Internet. Whitney Hall and University Village have an Internet connection through dial-up. For more information consult the ResNet Homepage. There are over 60 computers available in several computer labs on the campus for students to use 24 hours per day, seven days per week during the school year. Every resident hall room is wired with phone, cable and internet access (T1 speed) with free email through the school's network. Use of a personal computer or laptop is not mandatory but is convenient and is recommended.

One of the many benefits of living on campus is direct access from your room to the Cal Poly Computer Network and the Internet. The Housing and
Residential Life Department is excited to offer in-room, high-speed, direct 10/100Base-T Ethernet connectivity to all on-campus residents. One port per resident is
available in every room providing both roommates with a connection. Access to the network is direct and a modem is not required. A direct connection to
the network allows you to surf the Internet and access information on the Cal Poly Computer Network and the Internet. You can utilize worldwide computing
for your academic coursework without leaving your residence hall rooms, exchange electronic mail messages with family, friends, faculty, and other students,
participate in electronic discussion groups, transfer files and programs from remote systems to your personal computer, and find information about campus
activities, library hours, weather, and open class lists. The staff at the Housing Computing Office is available to assist you with your network connections.

Each unit is wired for voice/data access. Each student is given access to the campus Internet system.

Each apartment has a computer jack in the living room for connecting to the campus computing network. In addition, telephone, and cable hookups are available for each student.

The residence halls are not hard-wired to the campus computer network for Internet access. Residents can access the campus computer network from
their room by providing their own computer, modem, carrier, and activating phone line. Free Internet and e-mail over a high-speed fiber optic network is available for residents 24 hours a day in the University Courtyard Computer Lab
with a university Internet account.

bring the age of data connectivity to the residence halls, the CSULB network is considered "cutting edge and second to none - operating at a very high speed - 10 times the norm."

Wired and unwired! CSUMB offers high-speed access via wired ethernet connections in individual rooms plus wireless connection from any location in the residence halls, suites, and apartments on the central and north campus. This weighed heavily in Intel Corporation and the Center for Digital Education ranking CSUMB number 12 among the nation’s top 50 campuses for wireless Internet accessibility.
East campus family housing units have cable modems for wired access, and you can connect your own wireless router if desired.

The Sacramento State residence halls are wired to the campus computer network for high-speed (10/100mb) internet access through the ResLink program. Each student in the room is provided free data connectivity. Students must provide their own Ethernet-ready computers.
